UNESCO IHE Delft Rotary Scholarship 2025

IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands is the largest international graduate water education facility in the world. This institute of learning based in Delft was founded in 2001. IHE Delft pursues cutting-edge research that fulfills global water-related needs and targets pragmatic, evidence-based solutions.

IHE Delft in partnership with UNESCO is offering Rotary Scholarships which are fully and granted annually to graduate students from different countries studying at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. The 2025 UNESCO IHE Delft Rotary Scholarship covers the tuition fees, living stipends and travel costs. The program also offers coverage for visa fees, and health insurance for all selected candidates.

These scholarships are designed to promote long-term productive relationships between Rotarians and highly skilled water and sanitation professionals in their communities. Rotary Foundation (TRF) and IHE Delft Institute for Water Education partnered to tackle the world’s water and sanitation crisis by increasing the number of trained professionals to devise, plan, and implement solutions in developing and emerging countries.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees that international students pay at universities in the Netherlands is determined by their nationality, the institution to which they applied, and their field of study. However, on the average, tuition fees for Bachelor’s programs is within the range of €9,000 and €20,000. For master’s programs, the tuition fees are between €12,000 and €30,000.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicant must;

  • Be a Rotarian
  • Have already been academically admitted at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education’s MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development to one of the following thematic tracks;
    • Water and Health
    • Water, Food and Energy
    • Water Resources and Ecosystems Health
    • Water Hazards, Risks and Climate
  • When the candidate is deemed suitable, the sponsoring Rotary Club submits (together with the candidate) a fully completed application form to the joint Rotary/IHE Delft selection committee (details can be found below), copied to the District Governor and District Rotary Foundation Chair of their district.

When a Rotary scholarship has been awarded, the sponsoring Rotary Clubs maintains contact with the scholar throughout his or her studies. The financing of the successful candidates will be managed through Rotary’s Global Grant process.

Scholarship Benefits

The scholarship is fully funded and covers the successful candidate’s tuition fee, living stipends, travel costs and medical insurance. These scholarships are designed to promote long-term productive relationships between Rotarians and highly skilled water and sanitation professionals in their communities.

Application Procedure

  • Apply for admission for the IHE Delft Master program in Water and Sustainable Development
  • In the early stages of the application, search for the nearest Rotary club
  • Approach the club and request to nominate you for a Rotary scholarship
  • Application form needs to be completed by you and by the Rotary Club
  • Upon completion, the sponsoring Rotary Club submits your application.
